Fire Safety & Evacuation of Buildings Regulations
The History of the
Regulations
The new
regulations came into force on 1 January 1995 replacing the 1970 regulations. If your
building already has an evacuation procedure you comply with regulation 5 (see below ). If
you think that this achieves compliance with the regulations, please refer to the
explanatory note on page 18. There are 23 regulations, and the most important regulations
are the fire safety (preventative) regulations in Part 1.
|
 |
The Part 1 regulations
apply to all buildings except ordinary dwellings and farm buildings. In the
case of new buildings an application must be made within one month. Schemes once approved must be updated and fresh approval sought in
the case of building alterations, changes in the scheme, change of use of the building,
where the life of the building has been extended, or where an application for subdivision
is made.
