Profile:The Board of Trustees with Heather Clarke are achieving a great deal with this 2 class country school. Because of the declining school role, due to the downturn in the rural sector and some local farms opting for change into Forestry, Otairi is likely to become a sole charge school in 1999. The pupils receive an excellent all-round education (my kids started school here) under the capable leadership of Heather Clarke. There is, however, a drawback being in such a small community, you are either just resigned, just appointed or about to volunteer to be on the Board of Trustees. If you are ever free over the Wellington Anniversary Weekend the local community holds the Otairi Sports Day (on the Saturday) where all are welcome, and this supports the local school. IT'S A GREAT DAY OUT!!
