Total Quality Based Programmes
What exactly is Q-Base ®™?
The Q-Based ®™Code
was developed by Q - Base®™ New Zealand, a division of Telarc ™©, and it adapts
elements of the internationally recognised ISO 9000 series of quality management
system standards. It provides a powerful framework which gives the opportunity to
formalise how you, and your staff, will fully understand your customers' needs and how,
through ongoing quality management, you will meet those needs. To become a Q - Base®™
Registered Company, your quality management system is audited against the requirements of
this Code.
To become Registered companies must be able to demonstrate that they can:
 | Manage their Quality Systems. |
| Have systems which identify and
control all of its current critical documentation and that no unauthorised changes are
made. |
| Document and review all contracts
(including verbal agreements) |
| Have a system for controlling the
materials, components and subcontract services that it buys. |
| Ensure that its staff are fully
trained for the work which they do including written work instructions. |
| Draw up plans for inspection of raw
materials, components, work in progress & finished products. |
| Have procedures for investigating
substandard products, complaints, and other quality failures. |
During 1998 the Central Region team
assisted 15 of our clients reach a point where they are ready to be audited by
International Auditors. Summit Systems have developed specific quality assurance
programmes for different industries and we are becoming more experienced with each company
that we assist. By using our extensive data base of works instructions, training methods
and help a company can be in a position to be able to operate a formal QA system in
several hours instead of months.

situations. It has been considered a beneficial move by the majority of companies that
have adopted the ISO Code and with more recognition by our peers, we expect to become a
little busier in 1999.
